Shaughnessy Restaurant

Me and my friend went for brunch at Shaughnessy Restaurant in the VanDusen Gardens after a hellish night of drinking (I swear I am getting too old for this..). I've never been to Vandusen gardens but I heard it's nice. I didn't really get a great look today from the snow/rain.. (ughhhh) So, inside is kind of small and antiquey but the servers are all really nice and courteous. Nothing super obtrusive (like twisted fork. frick) but still if you wanted to have a convo with them, you could? Anyways,

I ordered the eggs benedict (I need to stop ordering this) and my friend ordered the crab stuffed croissant. After a couple minutes, piping hot blueberry scones were served to us.. but I don't taste the blueberry?

The food came right after, it was ..eh. Apparently the croissant was good (it looked good too might I add) but I didn't really like the hollandaise sauce for the eggs benny. it was a little sour? I don't know, the potatoes were kinda dry and I didn't like the ketchup (i think it was chili ketchup). Maybe I am just sick of eggs benny, I swear next time I'll order something more adventourus.

Afterwards, we sat there forever and he never came to give us our bill. Even when my friend apparently had eye contact with him, and we had our jackets on, he never came over..so we had to go up.. but it's ok, just one little damper to the breakfast service, it can be overlooked.

ps The washrooms are freaking tiny. i am asian so obv I am not that big, but I could barely move in the stall?? but maybe it was from these big ass snow boots i was wearing.. i needed them because I ended up walking up half a snowy mountain as future would play out (another story for another time)

Sfinaki

Whenever I eat greek food, I have to be super hungry in order for it to be satisfying. Theres soo much food, it's so filling even after one plate. Today we went to Sfinaki and it was the only meal I had the whole day (a brunner..? breakfast-lunch-dinner :P).

We went at an irregular time- 2ish/3.. and there were no one inside, which was fine. We had an isolated table by the window.. staring out at the Turkish Donair shop across the road (I am intrigued and would like to try it actaully). I usually order a lamb souvlaki but I decided to be adventourous today and try the gyro. haha. It was only 12 bucks and it came with fries, salad, and rice.

The food came rather quickly. My gyro was really really good. The lamb inside was soo delicious. The only downside was the large amount of onions.. I should have ordered it without. it was so gooddd.. but really hard to eat. Hopefully no one looked in from the outside, because I looked like a monster haha. The fries and rice were delicious as well. The lamb shoulder my friend had was very tender (and to prove it, the knife was never used :P).

that gyro was so good, I think I might have to start ordering said thing more. mmm.

Sfinaki! good! Go!

Curry King (Kingsway)

After seeing that delicious lobster meal at the Curry King on Cambie, I was aching to go and try it. Since I don't like going to a restaurant twice around the same time, I decided to try their original restaurant on Kingsway.

The decor inside was similar to the Cambie one.. with the same table cloths etc. We ordered the lobster/steak, beef brisket curry, and laksa. The service was typical asian waitresses but they were so bloody freaking loud. They kept having loud conversations with the cooks in the kitchen. hollyy crap. And then at one point, the two waitresses were discussing about spiders, cockroaches, and another "crawling biting" insect really loudly. WTF?

The laksa was o-k.. not very good.. the beef brisket curry was fine for 8.95. But after having the phnom penh curry, it doesn't compare haha. The steak/lobster comes and it looked better that day at Cambie than it tasted :(. It was a big mush mess!! sooo gross. and the steak was about 80-90% rare. Too rare for me. euck. I know that this is a dirty cha chang teng (my friends words, not mine :P), what did I expect.. Gotham Steak and lobster? but stillllll.... it looked soo good that last time..

It also didn't help that the cooks kept staring at me? I was a mess too. please leave me alone, but don't spit in my food. oh but you know what, the washroom was clean- props.
