Burgers etc + Valley Bakery

I think I just had the best burger today. wow, was it every yummy. Since it's wednesday, it's time for my weekly suburb dineout and we decided to go to Burgers etc. Apparently it's voted as the best burger joint by CTV viewers. I have *never* seen this place in my life! I think it's because everytime I pass by, I am entranced into looking at Sfinaki closeby or that gym or Valley Bakery.. or Turkish Donair or Heavenly Bites. Burgers etc need a bigger sign. but I am so glad I found it.

Inside, there's no one (I don't blame them since I was eating at 2-3 on hump day) and it was a very clean place for a small burger/bbq place. We sat by the window and ordered two things to share.. a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and a potato salad side, and a BBQ rib+beef brisket meal with fries and coleslaw. Ok I know, best burger- why the hell am I not ordering a burger? I don't know, I am not a fan of burgers.. they don't appeal to me, unless it was different.. but ..

I would like to think of this pulled pork sandwich as a burger since they used hamburger buns. (I see sandwiches as using bread :p). It was a pain to eat (one of the reasons why I dont like burgers) but wow was it ever delicious!! I don't think I ever really say anything is beyond good (I think the last thing I said that was was the gyro from Sfinaki nearby.. damn that was soo good too). The pulled pork were moist and slathered in the bbq sauce. It was really saucy, tasty, juicy, delicious, everything. The coleslaw really balanced it out to give it some crispiness. and also- I never describe any of my meals into this such detail- so it WAS really THAT good!!

The ribs were pretty good too- they weren't super dry so I could use my fork and knife to cut the meat off and eat it. They had a very good taste. However, we didn't like the beef brisket.. eck. and oh the sides weren't very good.. the fries were normal, but the coleslaw and potato salad we could have done without.

They had a couple of customers, and at the end it cost us about 28 dollars. mmm I really want to eat that pulled pork sandwich again. Even though I don't like hamburgers, this is one I m willing to eat again!!!

Then we walked across the street because I am really intrigued by this turkish donair shop. but we were sooo full I couldn't muster up eating here.. but we did get a petit four and a hazelnut chocolate torte thing from Valley Bakery next door. The pastries here are super cheap! I mean, the things we got were a little over a dollar.. and the pies were only 5 dollars ish each! The petit four was really gross- too sugary, but the hazelnut torte was good- the moussey chocolatey center was soft and light and yummy.

So, today's meal cost less than 20 dollars each. and it was dang good- ya!

Caffe Barney + Fleuri

Decided to go with the flow the night before and ended up venturing down main st. It was a fun time because I've never walked on the st before (only driven), but it was sooo cold . A lot of restaurants were really busy so we opted for a half full caffe barney.

The menu is simple and cheap. Mostly burgers, salads, appies.. interesting things were the butter chicken and osso buco. I ordered the chicken wrap and my friend orders the veggie burger. They were both around 9-10 dollars.. so that wasn't too bad.

The chicken wrap was really good, I only ate half and took the rest to go. There was a lot of avo and everything went really well together mmm. The veggie burger was good too . I didn't really like the fries but my friend loved it- because they were really salty.

The place has cheap eats, I wouldn't mind coming back again I guess.

Then we went to Fleuri in Sutton Place Hotel for desserts. They were having a chocolate buffet for 26 dollars but we didn't feel like it. So many people were dressed up, I felt like a scrub. oops. The place is very nice and has a warm, formal ambience to it. The service was good, cept she was really really quiet.. I guess to fit with the whole environment. We ordered a chocolate sampler- that was 11 dollars. gah. For some reason, the water was really really good and I had a lot. but it's just normal water..??

the dessert, even though it was chocolate (not a huge fan of choc desserts) was really really good! I think since we shared it, it wasn't too rich or too much. If I ate the whole thing, I don't think I could. The chocolate cake thing had a more chocolate texture, so it was good. The "shooter" was mousse+jello and that was sooo delicious. The white chocolate was different- good diff. The thing on top wasn't chocolate, but wasn't ice cream. It was in between. It reminded me of that so called ice cream I tried to make back in gr 10 cooking class- Where I took whipped cream in a zip lock bag and then I froze it or smth, but it never got the density of ice cream, it was just a little colder, harder whipped cream. it was like that, but 1000x better?

We checked out the buffet. Although small, they have some good selections like some cheesecakes, chocolate cakes, fondue, croissant pudding thing, and a crepe station. Maybe i'll try it one day .


I wasn't trying to be artistic and shiz with my caffe barney pics (if you see the veggie burger as well), it was because the lighting was really bad and I hate flashing unless i HAVE to..

Trafalgar's Bistro

Tonight I ate at 8:30 which is very very very rare for me. I sit now, after midnight, still digesting this food. ugh. haha. holy hell this place is sooo outta the way for me! Making it all the better that there was no transit involved :) (+1 yuppies don't transit, they drive hybrids.. wait -1 my parents drive a hybrid damnit)

we got there and got seated at a cramp little table in the middle...very near the group next to us.. and once again.. evesdropping by accident.. gah. (+1 yuppies are too self absorbed in their own lives to listen to others) The bistro is very very small.. they have a patio that I would think would be quite enjoyable for a sunny day.

No wine was ordered (+1 yuppies and their wine.. nuff said) I ordered the mussels/duck/lemon dacquoise and friend ordered scallops/halibut/flan. The bread arrives and it was probably the worst bread I've ever had. It was cold, hard, and stale. I took one bite and couldn't eat anymore. it was soo gross! We should not have gotten a bread basket.

The appys came and my mussels and very big and juicy (that's what she said... +1 yuppies believe they are too superior to say things like that haha). They were flavorful and I quite liked this dish. The scallops were very good too apparently, however the mashed potatoes was apparently a little salty and asparagus buttery.

The mains were eh. Apparently the halibut was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My duck was on the too rare side for me. I think most of time was used trying to cut it up over actually eating it. The vegetables that came with it was drenched in butter! ughhhH!! sooo grosss. I know it was sage butter infused or watever, but it tasted like I was putting tablespoons of liquid butter into my mouth. yuck

The desserts.. wow. The flan.. first bite- I just cringed from the unexpected sourness. Then the lemon dahhhquooyy.. (-1 yuppies like to talk like they know how to pronounce things) talk about sugar overload. Every bite was sugar. But then when I eat them together (half bit of each in my mouth at once), the sweet/sourness balance it out to neutralness. hah..They are made in the next door pastry shop Sweet Obsessions, which I ventured over towards after and it was a very cute shop with very nice cakes.. which I didn't buy because I didn't feel like adding to the millions of calories I had already digested from the butter everything (+1 yuppies like to workout.. I stopped that after i fell off the elliptical..oi)


Aside from the mussels, I don't think I liked this restaurant.. The whole meal and everything cost 35 bucks .. aiyaaa (+1 I don't have some random complex title job downtown)

so there, I am not a yuppie nor am I a yuppie in training ..nor am I resisting so hard to be yuppie that I actually am a yuppie. fuck that.

Granville Room

Before clubbing, me and a friend decided to have dinner at granville room. I have never seen this place but I knew it existed. it's soo camoflaged, just like sanafir! There was one woman standing outside who greeted us and led us inside. It reminded me a whole lot of Republic (which makes sense since it's the same company). It's very loungy. for an older crowd.. but still fun..

They had a pretty good cocktails list for around 7-9 bucks. We had a couple drinks and shared a yam fries and chicken wings. They were both really good.. but the chicken wings is Definitely not a date food! They didn't give us any utensils or water bowls so it got pretty messy with hands and they were slathered wtih bbq sauce. Thank god I really don't care wat my friend thought of me and pretty sure he's seen me worse before haha. but he told me I shouldn't ever eat that on a date LOL. note taken. The batter was a bit on the heavy side but I was so hungry and getting drunk, I didn't even care. Deep fried food is the best for drinking times.

We also shared a chocolate tart dessert, that came with strawberries and kiwis.. my two most hated fruits! but it's ok, he ate it :) the tart was very chocolatey with a yummy shortbread crust :)

All in all, this place was pretty good. The music was a bit loud and once again I was screaming to have a conversation.. but it's a bars/lounge area- what did I expect. My friend definitely liked the artwork around.. with the naked girl and all. The meal came out to be 59.. I think it was the drinks that made the bill costly.. cuz seriously, yam fries, wings, and dessert? come on now.

we went to cellar after where I was once again in a huge sausage fest. but it's ok, i m getting used to it, and I was too bored/drunk and being gangster to a milli that I didn't care what they thought of me ha. like i said before, they've probably seen me even worse (haha is this some sort of motif in my life?) and also, going with a group of guys is the best to dance and not get hit on by creepers- it's truee!

ps I also lost my upass. this sucks major ass . so my friend lent me his.. so now I am an boy asian with an afro. lovely. and also all these snow alerts.. can't even get off the damn mountain! :@

Plan B

We were craving some dessert and wine on a Monday night so we decided to try out Plan B (since they had half off wine specials). I've been here once before and i thoroughly enjoyed everything and planned on coming again.. This time, I definitely do not have the same sentiments.

We arrive and the service was super nice and happy so we thought excellent this will be a good night. We sat down and ordered a bottle of riesling and a sablefish plate. The whole menu is designed so everything are "share plates". Sablefish for 15 bucks, we thought this will be a good (esp since it's a pain to cook fish in our apt b/c of bad ventilation :( ). we patiently waited for our food, drinking our delicious wine.. getting hungrier by the minute... Then she comes over and tells us she forgot to put the order in for the fish, and didn't realize until after she asked the kitchen where the fish was.. omg. The place wasn't busy and you forgot ONE order. I actually started getting hunger pains and felt weak (I hadn't eaten much the whole day). The sablefish comes and it's this dinky thing meant to be shared??? we each took 2 bites and it was done. The foam thing is just weird and the panna cotta/sablefish tasted off. Needless to say, we hated this and I was still starving.

So we ordered fries which came out MUCH faster. I did not like the seasoning on it, but I had to stuff my face because really bad hunger pains.

Lastly, we ordered the stilton cheesecake which was delicious but so freaking small. The rhubarb was super sour though. Towards the end of the night, we never saw her and she never came over to ask us how everything was. I couldn't even finish my wine because my stomach needed food, not alcohol. and I didn't feel like ordering another 15 dollar weird ass thing that would not fulfill my appetite.

I was still weak and had to get a burger from mcdonalds, that 4 dollar mcchicken was better than the whole 45 dollar meal combined.

No.. we are not coming back again.

Yew York+ Abigail's Party

We went to Yew York and shared a chicken souvlaki wrap. We said no onions, and honestly 2 seconds after, she tells the cook to make a wrap and doesn't say no onions. Honestly, 2 . seconds. after. No one else was at the restaurant either, so how the hell is her memory THAT bad. Anyways, onions came in it. we were starving we just picked it off.

It was ok. the fries were tasteless and the wrap was meh. The place is really small and seating a little comfortable (in my opinion).

After we headed to Abigail's party and I was super uncomfortable because my number one phobia is fruitflies/gnats flying around. There were about 2-3 that kept flying around us and I got so tense. ..
The place is really small and everyone seems to know each other. We had the duck confit quesadilla and it was soooooo grosss. I couldn't even eat it after 2 bites. It was just so salty and ughh ew. We wanted to leave really bad but we had this coupon that says get 1 menu item and the 2nd one is free. so we decided to get a dessert, since after all, it WILL be free right..

the dessert was o-k. nothing to rave about. The bill came and they said the coupon won't work because it was only for entree.. What the fuck? first it just says 1 MENU item and the 2 MENU item is free. So i pointed this out to her and she's like ya but they have to be around the same value and stuff.
What???
um, we are asking you to take off the dessert, which is 7 dollars. Is that not actually beneficial for you instead of asking you to take of a main which is around 12-13 dollars? She didn't really make sense nor do I think she knew what she was talking about. But I honestly just wanted to get out of there and didn't feel like making a commotion

I was going to go to a sushi place after but I was pretty fuming, so went home instead.
Obviously I am never going to Abigail's Party again.

Bogarts+Cactus Club+ Hakkasan

After class, I was starving so we went off to Bogarts and I ordered a steak. I rarely ever order steak just for myself (it's so meaty and usually really exp) so ya i was pretty freaking hungry. The steak was ok. I think they overseasoned a bit. The place was pretty empty and the food took quite a while to get out (or I was just extra impatient that day). The place wasn't memorable enough for me to want to come back...


I am not a fan of chain restaurants. Unless I was with a group of people or needing to get drunk, I don't usually venture to earls or milestones for dinner or a date.
Unforunately, I was starving and around Metrotown area with no where to go except chain places (Well I wanted to go to Kiss yo mama but I had no idea where it was). We ended up going to Cactus Club and I had the cajun chicken sandwich. I don't like Burgers because I find them kinda fatty and really difficult to eat. There's just so much filling inside a burger and so many calories. However, a sandwich just sounds a little healthier and better created. (I know, my connotation with sandwiches and burgers are weird but that's how i feel!) So when I got a burger, I wasn't very pleased. I ended up only eating half and taking the rest back for takeout.

The next day, I went to hakkasan in Richmond. It's around the industrial areas .. which is a bit weird for a restaurant! The place was nice and clean. The waitresses were all very friendly and courteous, but a little fake in my opinion. I just wanted to try the hakka burger (I know it's a burger) but the creative thing about this burger is that it uses steamed bun (man tou) instead of regular buns, and the filling inside is like unagi. So it was kinda cool. However, it was freaking HARD to eat! the bun soaked up the condiments inside so it made it reallyy soggy and then difficult to hold up and eat. Everything fell out AS I ate, so I had to discard my lettuce and tomato to make it work. I ended up eating it with a fork and chopsticks because it wasn't working with hands. It sure was tasty though.
We also ordered a chicken and rice which was SOOO salty.

Wings+Japanese

I've always wanted to try Wings but never been motivated to go because I've always heard such bad things about this place. Things from bad wings to medicore food to dumb waitresses.. Besides, this place is a little out of my way (alllll the way down granville.) Abby recently opened a new wings so I thought this is an opportune time to try it out. I mean the restaurant selection here kinda sucks: regular chain restaurants, apparently a really bad spaghetti factory, bad brunch restaurant 62, either AYCE or mediocore or shittay japanese joints (more below), dragonfort (no making fun of that one there. we know them.), and ..what.. apple betty? gross.

So for drinks, we ordered gin and tonic and bellini. my gin and tonic was way too sweet and the bellini was so gross. It was made by mix, and it was really really awful. We ordered wings: westcoaster and louisana. The WC were way too lemony and the louisana were way too sweet. Lovely.

For dessert, the menus made them sound soooo good so we ordered two. They looked exactly alike! except that the hugs and kisses one had brownie layers between the cheesecake. oi.

The service was ok, but I would not come back to it again. I want to give Blustone another try.


Last week after my class 5 (which I got yay) me and my father went to ken japan bistro for quick lunch before I headed back to burnaby. When I say quick, I actually meant slow. to the point I got sooo frustrated but I didn't even know how to express it because there was only one waitress, she was already running around, and I don't want to express my anger at a young asian fob girl. My father said it's still her fault because she's just slow . period. he thinks she was doing unneccesary things or didn't know how to prioritize the workload. Like she would be doing back of the house things (filling up kettles but not using them yet, or giving orders but there were already lots of orders there) instead of tending to customers needs first. I don't know, she's just slow. honestly FUCK.

We had the tonkatsu (ken japon style apparently) dragon rolls and alaska rolls. The rolls were ok. a little expensive for 5 pieces. (around 7.95-9.95) and the tonkatsu was soo gross. even my father thought so. The breading also came right off when we picked it up. Not only this, but the pork was fried so long it was so hard and chewy. gross. I keep saying even my father thinks so because he's so easy going and never finds a problem with anything. I mean he does, but he is usually forgiving or understanding or thinks everything tastes fine. Unlike me, I am really picky and nothing usually "wows" me.. so when I say even my father thinks so, then it's prettyyy bad

Obv I am never going back. I want to try Mars bistro by old abby. It's a small place, but it could be good..?

Cactus Club+ Tapastree

Before going to California, we went to the test kitchen for cactus club (also in hopes to see our first local celeb- rob feenie which didn't happen :<) I had the calamari burger and she had the duck sandwich.

The calamari burger was disgusting. It was soggy and I was not a fan of the curry calamari. however the duck sandwich was very yummy. Very good taste starting from duck to bread to everything else

The place is nice, but please take the calamari burger off the menu.

That night we went to Tapastree for wine and dinner. The place inside is kinda stuffy. She described it as the non moving air which is also correct. We just had the lamb chops which were nothing special. The wine was nice. We wanted dessert but they were unimaginative and boring.

Timbre

I reluctantly went to timbre today. haha no not really, but I wanted to stay home and finish a massive report, but my roommate was starving for food. We chose this closeby place. The place is very open and spacey, the waitress is really nice and the place is pretty chill. There were a lot of fruit flies again :S but this was better than abigail's because it was so open, so it wasn't as confined. Well everything was ok.. until.. the spider came down the web towards us, and started swinging like crazy from left to right from the wind :|

I ordered the bruschetta because I wasn't very hungry and she had the BLT. the bruschetta was surprisingly good. The bread was crispy yet soft and there were lots of tomatoes and cheese and etc on it. Apparently the BLT was pretty good too, I had the fries and they were delicious.

The only let down was that it was got SOO cold we were honestly shivering the entire time.

The food was good nonetheless! :) (and I don't say that quite often if you haven't realized from my other blog posts :P )

Kerrisdale

I had to go to my doctor today which is in Oakridge Center (so far). This is the first time I've ventured in Kerrisdale. it's so .. weird. haha. I don't know, maybe I am not used to it..

We went to Fish Cafe because I've heard such good things about it and shared a fish and chips. The fish was absolutely bland, no taste whatsoever. the fries were ok. The place seemed really clean and fresh, but I didn't really like it.. Once again I am not a good judge because I don't like heavily battered food.

Next door was this really cute Adonia tea house that my friend really wanted to try. It was a nice asian tea house. We just wanted to share one afternoon tea which was allowed. The mini finger foods included chocolate cupcake, chocolate roll, coconut cupcake, egg salad sandwich, tuna salad sandwich, and salami+cheese+scone. It came with a tea. They were all really good, and I think this would be a great place to come with my mother one day.

We also went to Sweet-e's which was a small pastry shop. They didn't have a lot of cakes, but we had the chocolate swirl cheesecake and peanut butter pop. the cheesecake was yummy but the pop was not.

Sushi Hachi was a small japanese place with a really good lunch deal. 2 items + miso for 6.95. We shared the chicken karaage and chicken terriyaki roll which were adequate. Nothing spectacular or anything.

Finest At Sea was a let down. I read about how the crab cakes are really good but they were one of the worst I've ever had (and I eat a lot of crab cakes if you haven't noticed). It was all batter! Very little crab, just batter and some tomato. ugh.

We also went to Secret Garden but the prices were too expensive and they wouldn't let us share like Adonia did so we left.. I felt a little weird inside also..

Havana + Diva

I hadn't seen a friend of mine in FOREVER. We went to Commercial Drive hoping for Tio Pepe Mexican Food but ended up at Havana instead (I couldn't find tio pepe..).
The place was packed with people, and we chose to sit inside. It was fucking boiling inside so we shared a pitched of champagne sangria. It was pretty good. We also shared some good yam fries. I had the jerk wings after and she had the chicken wrap. She liked her wrap, my jerk wings weren't very good. I think I didn't like the spices. The sangria was yummy but very nonalcoholic?

After we headed downtown to meet another friend to go to Diva (We wanted to go to Uva but we were too underdressed and we already messed up our stay at Diva the last time we went so it didn't matter.. long story short, we undertipped by ..a lotttttt. accidentally because we were so drunk). We shared the chocolate souffle cake, I really really didn't want to because I am not a huge fan of chocolate cake, or chocolate desserts (except chocolate bars). I really wanted to have the sifton cheesecake cuz I heard such good reviews about it but noooooo they all thought it would be shit blah. Oh well, I had my baileys on the rocks. I was all set. The cake wasn't very good, I ate more ice cream than the cake and I don't ever eat ice cream anyways! (I don't like it). I think they realized it wasn't very good either because we didn't eat much of it. shoulda listened to meeeee

I'd love to go back to Diva for dinner one day, the place is beautiful and heard such great reviews for it.

Chambar+Memphis Blues

So for my friend's birthday, I decided to treat her to dinner We were both starving after class because I only had cereal and she only had milk the whole day... I took her to Chambar because I've heard such great reviews about this place. The waitor extensively explained and recommended things to the table next to us. However with us, he doesn't tell us anything or ask if we have any questions. .. Not only this, but he was quite non existent during out meal. UGH. The place is pretty nice, it reminded me of Plan B.

We went there and had the tortellini and mussels (since i've heard amazing reviews about the mussels. That they are so juicy and big and the soup is so good you have to get bread to lap it up).

The tortellini wasn't very good at all. It tasted like the tortellini I get from Safeway with a crunch to it. The duck and greens part made up for it though.. It wasn't worth the 15 dollars..
The mussels were not as amazing as I thought. They were really small and was nothing special. Even my friend agreed, and we eat quite a lot of mussels combined. Maybe it was an off day..
The soup wasn't crazy amazing either.

Then we shared the brie cheese dessert. It tasted kind of weird and apparently the strawberries were super sweet (I don't eat strawberries).. too sweet.

We also had 2 cocktails. I had the fresh figs and it wasn't very good. The table next to us thought the same as well.

We were super hungry when we left. So we headed over to Memphis Blues BBQ on Commercial Drive and shared a rib ends meal. It was not shabby for the price. I could have done without the sides though (didn't like any of them).

It's kinda disheartening that I didn't have a great time at Chambar (which I tried to like a lot). Maybe it was an off day, I don't know. but I don't think I'll be back for awhile. I do want to try cafe medina though. As for Memphis, I would like to try the pulled pork or ribs one day. Without the full meal combo dealio. Maybe the one on Broadway :) Only when I am craving meat and super hungry.

Friday

Today, we went to players chophouse for lunch. Inside, the place was really nice and spacey. We had the canadian pizza and seafood chowder. The bread came with the pizza at the same time. That was kinda gay because we were so hungry. The chowder tasted microwaved (my friend said, I didn't have it). the salad that came with it tasted weird. but the pizza wasn't that bad. I was sooo full after. The place is ..nice.. but it was a little uncomfortable. I don't know, it wasn't bad, it wasn't good. it was .. eh.


Then we went to Boulangerie la parisienne for raspberry cheesecake. I didn't like it. It was too moussy for me. The bottom is sponge cake which I don't like. The sandwiches didn't look very appealing either..

After we went to Yew for a drink. The place is beautiful. I love the high ceilings and open kitchens.I didn't feel like alcohol so I had this forget me not. Gross. The tea in the drink was horrible and my friend tried it as well. After we had a sip, we made a cringing face. It's not even like I m trying to, it's just the drink makes us make the face haha i don't know. She had a great long island iced tea which turned out to be 50 cents more than my gross non alcoholic drink. fuck.
I think I'll be back for food one day

all in all i spent 15 dollars yay :)

Lucy Mae Brown

So last night me and my bestest decided to venture to lucy mae brown. I've been there before for her birthday and I wasn't impressed. We chose it again because it was close to Century, where we wanted to club after. We ordered the salmon fishcakes and a side of fries. Also a bottle of riesling. Our waitress was Super nice, reminded me of Anne Hathaway hah. The complimentary bread was soooo good. Probably one of the best I've ever had. it was piping hot and soft. mmmm. The Salmon Fishcakes were a little weird at first because I didn't know the chutney was going to be sweet (well i guess apricot=sweet oops) and the avocado ice cream was more like goop than ice cream.. but then the dish got yummier as we ate. The fries were normal, coulda done without. We ended it with a chocolate mousse. I didn't want it at first because I was craving some cheesecake or roti ice cream but the other places were too far. It was surprisingly good. The portions was a little too small but nonetheless, yummy.

I can't believe this was such a difference from last time I came here. Then again, last time we shared this seafood platter that consisted of crab and shrimp.. two things that I don't like.

Azia+Kingston

So before Kanye concert, we decided to hit up Kingston Taphouse. I have Never seen this place before but it was on opentable and in my book so I thought wat the heck. Going inside, I was kinda uncomfortable because there were a lot of old creepy men looking at us and it looked a little sleazy.. but then the back was like the dining area so it was better I guess.. Although our waitress didn't come over for like 15 minutes and then when she does she goes "hey girls" and then stops. no how are you or can I get you anything. it was . so. awkward. we honestly all just stopped talking and stared at each other .. haha.. oi. my friend got a chicken chili thing and I got dry ribs (i used to eat dry ribs SOO much at red robins after a brutally long shift at panago [i didn't make pizzas, i was an agent you ordered pizza from me]) It was ok. I was indifferent to this dish. I doubt I'll be back to this place.

Tonight me and my parents went to Azia because we didn't go for dinner for my mother's birthday yet. It was good because we spoke cantonese and they understood. The place was really nice and they gave us a good area to sit. We started off with 3 appys: duck spring roll, roti canai, and tempura filo prawns. The spring roll was o-k. Roti canai was good, because I LOVE roti canai. but the prawns was Gross. the potato and the prawns just didn't go together and when I bit into it I got soo much water I am guessing. ugh. gross.

We had chicken and beef satays next.. they were ok, nothing to rave about. We also had a laksa. It was my first time trying it and it was too spicy for me.. my parents thought they should have used a different type of noodle instead because fun see is not authentic.. We also had a scallops sushi pizza. made with sushi rice on the bottom topped with scallops and ebi mayo. My father loved this, I didn't really..

We had the lemongrass chicken with tumeric rice. ugh sick. It was not authentic at all. We could have done without this dish. honestly.

The ending was the highlight. The desserts were super good. We ordered the Ice cream Roti and green tea creme brulee. I have no complaints about the roti one, because .. well I love roti hahaha. even the ice cream worked with it, and I usually don't eat ice cream with anything (not even apple pie). The green tea was nice for the creme brulee, but I think they put too much sugar on it. made it too bitter imo. I made creme brulee once, it was o-k, but I didn't have those blowtorch things so I used matches.. ya that didn't work. ahah

Sciue Italian Bakery Cafe

I take the 135 a lot to go downtown and I always pass this Italian Bakery Cafe. it is so cute outside and I have always meant to go try it out. I finally did today.. The place was pretty busy and the set up is quite like Bread Garden. There are Pane Romano on one side which are long pizzas made fresh daily. They all look really good but I chose the pollo (chicken). I wish I chose the mozza and veggies one instead but I was scared there were onions on it (blech). mm it was ok. It tasted like normal pizza and a little dry. It cost 6.45 so I don't really think it was worth it.. My friend had soup and she said it was ok. I guess this is ok for a standard cafe

Japadogs!

ok so after moving into my new place, my father made me drive to eat lunch. We wanted to try out Zest but it was closed so we went to eat japadogs instead because I wasn't even hungry. We had the teri mayo and miso mayo. I was so full after half of one. I accidentally ate the miso mayo (gahh I don't like miso) so I found it really salty. I am sure the teri mayo would have been really good. My father loved them and I am sure everyone else does too because there's always a crowd around the stand. I'll definitely come back for teri mayo dogs :)

frick i m running out of money

This past friday, I went restuarant hopping to 8 places. yup , eight. Was spose to be ten but i'll get into that.

We were supposed to go to granville island but vancouver weather = rain so we stayed downtown. Thank god it stopped raining because I look like a freakin eskimo with my hood. We went to the Shore Club for a quick appie, we got a jumbo shrimp cocktail. I am not a big fan of shrimps in the first place but I heard they have good ones so I was willing to try. the waitor said he'll give us the dinner one cuz that would be one shrimp more. I was reluctant since I knew we were going restuarant hopping the whole day but my friend said watever it'll probably only be like 50 cents more. Turns out it was four dollars more for a shrimp that I don't even like that much so she sucked it up and paid for it. The place was really nice and sophisticated, but it was not a comfortable setting.

The next place was Ashahi-ya for a quick sushi bite. We shared a dynamite combo which wasn't very good I am sad to say. It was very plain. Norboo was next because it was approaching around 3pm now and most places were closing for a couple hours. We shared a plate of chicken wings wait i mean chiken wings. for 3.50 They were really gross. They had this really sweet weird sauce on top of them so I didn't eat any of the skin. oh well 3.50.

We walked down robson to Denman.. to Kintaro Ramen. We sat down until we saw the min 6.50 per customer. ehhh We just wanted to share a bowl of ramen, not spend arnd 15 bucks. so we left and went to the Calling public house to share a plate of really really good yam fries. We sat by the window and saw a lot of close accidents! omg. I never knew the denman/davie intersection was so dangerous! I wasn't even drinking wine but we were sitting near a heater and my face was turning reddd . ugh. At least she didn't think i was getting the asian flush cuz i was drinking water hah. but those fries were probably the best I've ever had.

We then walked up davie, then right towards Stonegrill and we walked the Seawall to Bardot, which was closed! GRR. this is my freaking 4th time. DAMN. Why do I bother. honestly.
So we ended up going to Elixir for a glass of wine. my wine glass was SOOO dirty. ugh sick. I was not impressed by this place.

We walked up to Burrard and passed the Japadog stand, man i soo wanted to get one haha. but instead we went to Gyoza King which was sooo packed we ended up eating at E-Hwa. We shared a donkatsu which wasn't bad. Nothing amazing though. It was a filling meal if I ate it alone. The place is super korean and dark.

Then we walked to Gastown, to Incenido for a Montreal pizza. It wasn't bad. My friend absoultely loved it because she loved the thin crust. we planned on hitting up Boneta next for Dessert and wine but we accidentally bumped into the rest of our party at the sketchy pizza joint that you stumble to when you are drunk and finished clubbing at Blarneystone. (worst pizza place ever even when I was so hammed). So we went to Boneta together and it was too packed :( Guu was too so we went to the Modern and I was sober as heck.

So sad. but the restaurant hopping was fun times :) ate like a gazillion calories but probably walked it all off.
